the Graded Chinese Reader series is a collection of abridged reading materials designed for Chinese learners, aiming to help them improve their reading ability. Since the publication of the first volume of the English annotated edition in 2007, this series has been well-received by readers. It can be used as a Chinese reading textbook or as extensive reading materials by Chinese learners. To meet the needs of readers, a total of six volumes have been published. To assist French-speaking learners of Chinese, three French-annotated volumes will be published with vocabulary levels of 1000, 2000, and 3000 words respectively. The vocabulary level of Volume Three is confined to 3000 words. The articles are selected from contemporary Chinese short stories, including«????»«???????»«??»«????»and«????». These stories depict the lives of the Chinese people and various social changes from the 1980s to the present. This volume is restricted to a vocabulary of 3000 commonly used Chinese words. The vocabulary selection is primarily based on the 1500 most frequently used words from the International Curriculum for Chinese Language Education (2008). It also refers to the 2500 words specified in the Chinese Proficiency Test Syllabus Level 5. This vocabulary level is equivalent to mastering 3245 words stipulated in Intermediate Level 4 of the Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education
