In the village of Sérignan-du-Comtat in Provence, the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle has opened the doors to an exceptional site: the last home of French naturalist Jean-Henri Fabre. It was in 1879, at the age of fifty-five, that this "Homer of insects", as Victor Hugo called him, bought the Harmas ("wasteland" in Provençal). It was the fulfilment of a long-held dream: to have land of his own where he could finally study "plants and small creatures" full-time. Acquired by the Muséum in 1922, this unique site offers an intimate view of the life and work of this tireless observer of the living world. Inside the house, discover his major works and home environment, then venture into the garden, entirely dedicated to the preservation of biodiversity, for an enchanting, instructive stroll through the local and exotic plant species that are grown here, some of which were planted by Jean-Henri Fabre himself. Welcome to a veritable "open-air laboratory"!
