Doctrine religieuse fondée en Inde par Siddârta Gautama (Bouddha) au VIe siècle av. J.-C. Sa caractéristique principale est le refus du « soi » et l’accent mis sur la compassion. Les formes les plus connues en Occident sont le bouddhisme tibétain (lamaïsme) et le zen, originaire du Japon.
