Début de l'année 1967, au Japon. Fumito « Bunjin » Shimizu, rédacteur en chef du magazine Manga Story, bataille pour offrir au monde un nouveau genre de mangas. Après avoir publié les premiers travaux de Monkey Punch, il découvre un nouveau talent : Tadashi Yoshimoto, jeune garçon au sang chaud, qui sera connu plus tard sous le nom de Baron Yoshimoto. Dès lors, tout semble prêt pour lancer une nouvelle revue...
